Zelensky: Talks on Ukraine's security guarantees should immediately move to leadership level, Trump should be involved

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that talks on his country's security guarantees should urgently move to the level of state leaders, including US President Donald Trump.
Zelensky also clarified that Ukraine and its allies will wait until September 1, a deadline previously set by Trump himself, to see if Russia is willing to participate in a bilateral meeting aimed at ending the military aggression.
Speaking to reporters, the Ukrainian president stressed that “talks on security guarantees should move to the level of leaders as soon as possible,” adding that “President Trump should be involved.” He added that next week he plans to continue contacts with European leaders regarding commitments that he considers comparable to those of NATO.
"We need a clear architecture for everyone," Zelensky said, underlining that he intends to hold a meeting with Donald Trump to present Kiev's positions to him.
He also called on Ukraine's allies to formally approve any security guarantee agreement through their national parliaments.
"We want security guarantees that are legally binding. We don't want another Budapest Memorandum," he stressed, referring to the 1994 agreement under which Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal in exchange for promises of protection.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine and its partners have decided to wait until September 1 to see if Russia will agree to participate in a bilateral meeting to end the occupation. “If Moscow does not react by then, we expect a clear response from our partners,” he said.
"We want to see a real willingness from Russia to participate in the talks. If not, we expect a reaction from our partners," he declared.
Elsewhere in the statement, Zelensky announced that Russia has massed up to 100,000 troops near the city of Pokrovsk, a key area in eastern Ukraine. The situation in the Pokrovsk region “is the most worrying at the moment,” he said, noting that Russian forces are “preparing for clear offensive actions.”
