The Gen Z revolt in Nepal was directed against the children of politicians!

Fire, tear gas, shooting: Nepal plunges into chaos!

Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli was forced to resign on Tuesday – but the anger in the streets continues.

Thousands of young people, fueled by frustration over a temporary ban on Facebook, X and YouTube, march, causing chaos in the capital Kathmandu. They block roads, attack government buildings, set fire to palaces and ministries. Thick smoke rises over the capital. Army helicopters evacuate ministers to safety. At least 19 people have died as security forces clash with demonstrators in full force.

The protests are no longer just about the internet blockade. Nepal's Generation Z is fed up with corruption, nepotism and an elite that is out of touch with reality. Particularly targeted: the children of politicians – the "Nepo Kids" – who live in luxury while youth unemployment in the Himalayan nation reaches 20 percent.

Every day, over 2,000 young Nepalese leave their country in search of work abroad. “There is no reason for us to stay here anymore,” says student Bishnu Thapa Chetri angrily.

On Tuesday, the violence escalated further: videos on social media showed Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, being attacked and beaten until they bled by an angry mob.
A clip shows aides moving the party leader to safety. The Nepali Congress is the country's largest party - and part of the controversial ruling coalition.

According to media reports, Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, wife of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, has lost her life during the protests. According to these reports, her house in the Dallu neighborhood of Kathmandu was set on fire by demonstrators. She was taken to Kirtipur Burn Hospital, but died there from her severe injuries.

The private residences of Prime Minister Oli, the Interior Minister and the opposition leader were also set on fire. The presidential palace and the Supreme Court building were also set on fire. In front of the destroyed Parliament building, a demonstrator chanted: “We are here because our friends were killed. Oli must fall!”
