Prince William: How his parents' divorce affected his life and his commitment to a stable family

Prince William is committed to providing his children with the kind of stable, peaceful family life he didn't have as a child. In the October 3 episode of the Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler, hosted by Eugene Levy, the Prince of Wales gives one of the most candid interviews of his life, talking about his childhood, his time with Kate Middleton, and his role as the next King of England.
William, 43, admits that part of his agenda as monarch will be "change for the better", but at home, with Kate and their three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, the focus is on stability and family love.
When Levy asks about his desire for his children to have a normal life at home, William admits that it starts with the legacy of his late mother, Princess Diana. He emphasizes: “It’s very important that that atmosphere is created in the home. There has to be warmth, security, love.” However, he recalls that his parents divorced when he was 8, so the period of quiet childhood was short.
Diana and Prince Charles were married on July 29, 1981, but the marriage quickly became strained due to numerous infidelities. The couple announced their separation in 1992 and the divorce was finalized on August 28, 1996, after a long period of turmoil and bombastic media interviews that marked the history of the royal family.
