German diplomat Wadephul: We hope China will exert influence on Russia to end the war

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has called on China to increase pressure on Russia so that Moscow enters into serious negotiations to end its war against Ukraine.
"If there is one country in the world that has a strong influence on Russia, it is China," Wadephul said after a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing.
"We hope, we expect that China will use this influence," he said.
China has been accused by the West of supporting the Russian war effort, including buying Russian oil, while insisting on being neutral.
Germany's top diplomat accused Russia of wanting to "impose maximum demands under the pretext of being willing to talk."
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China is a key player on the international stage and has significant influence over Russia, Wadephul said./ DPA News.
