Did Israel commit genocide?/ UN investigative commission: It deliberately targeted Palestinian children in Gaza

A new report published by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel alleges that Israeli authorities and forces have deliberately targeted Palestinian children in Gaza, committing acts that may amount to genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
According to the report, there are “reasonable grounds” to conclude that Israel has committed acts that have caused the death and serious physical and psychological harm to hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children. The commission argues that these acts are part of a deliberate strategy aimed at damaging the future of the Palestinian people by targeting their children.
The report notes that the killing and injury of children has continued even after the ceasefire reached in October 2025 between Israel and Hamas. According to the commission, Israeli military operations have caused “unprecedented deaths, injuries and trauma” among Palestinian children.
The chairman of the commission, Srinivasan Muralidhar, stated that the protection and survival of Palestinian children is closely linked to the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. He added that by targeting children, Israel is undermining the ability of the Palestinian people to exist and determine their own future.
The report also accuses Israel of using precision weapons, including drones and snipers, against children, as well as attacks on schools, displacement camps and residential buildings. The document also alleges that Palestinian children in Gaza and the West Bank have been detained, mistreated and in some cases subjected to sexual and gender-based violence during detention.
The Commission also criticizes attacks on pediatric and neonatal hospitals, as well as restrictions on humanitarian aid, warning that these actions have contributed to increased malnutrition and the deterioration of the living conditions of children in Gaza.
On the other hand, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has rejected the report, calling it a “slanderous hoax” and “propaganda.” Israeli authorities argue that the report ignores the Israeli victims of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, and the use of Palestinian civilians as human shields by Palestinian armed groups.
Israel continues to deny accusations of genocide, insisting that its military operations in Gaza were carried out in self-defense and in accordance with international law. Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice is considering a case filed by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza, a process that is expected to last several years before issuing a final ruling.
