Fearing attacks from Ukraine, Russia "fortifies" Moscow, places anti-aircraft systems on skyscrapers
Russia is strengthening Moscow's air defenses by placing anti-aircraft systems on the tops of high-rise buildings in the capital, at a time when Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory have increased significantly.
Footage posted on social media shows Pantsir-S1 air defense systems being transported by Mil Mi-26 heavy helicopters and then being placed on the roofs of skyscrapers, including the 42-story Nordstar Tower.

Russian authorities have been deploying these rooftop systems since 2023, following several incidents of drones entering urban areas of Moscow. Their purpose is to intercept low-altitude aerial targets, especially suicide drones.
The air defense network in the Russian capital has been gradually expanded in recent months, as the war in Ukraine continues to have repercussions far from the front lines.
