Vladimir Putin critic executed in Poland

A Russian artist and prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin has been killed in an attack that Polish authorities are investigating as a well-organized execution.

According to Polish prosecutors, the victim is Semyon Skrepetsky , 44, who was attacked in a city parking lot, just a few hundred meters from the Belarusian consulate. According to preliminary investigations, he was shot five times in the head, chest and back by two gunmen.

A spokesman for the prosecutor's office in Lublin said the perpetrators approached the victim and opened fire on him. "When the victim fell to the ground, one of the assailants approached him and shot him three more times before leaving the scene," he said.

At the crime scene, investigators found five shell casings and a bullet fired from a 9-millimeter Luger pistol.

Minutes after the incident, Polish police arrested two Belarusian nationals, aged 33 and 37, near the Belarusian consulate in the city. However, authorities stress that the investigation is still at an early stage and their role in the murder remains to be determined.

Skrepetsky was known for his satirical cartoons of prominent political figures, including Russian President Vladimir Putin , Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko , and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov .

According to Polish media, the artist had settled in Biała Podlaska in 2021, after fleeing his hometown. His murder has raised numerous questions about the motives of the crime, while Polish authorities are continuing their investigations to fully unravel the incident.
