New details from the fire that killed 40 people, the resort manager is filmed leaving with the safe of money

An investigation has been launched into the bar manager of a Swiss resort where 40 people died in a devastating fire. Authorities say she was seen leaving with a cash register full of cash as the building engulfed in flames.
New details have emerged from the fire that killed 40 people in Crans-Montana. Authorities have launched an investigation into the Swiss resort's bar manager. The resort manager was filmed leaving with a safe full of cash in hand.
Jessica Moretti, 40, is accused of abandoning customers and making off with the evening's earnings as deadly flames engulfed Le Constellation in the ski town of Crans-Montana. She co-owns the bar with her husband, Jacques Moretti, 49.
Swiss authorities have opened a formal criminal investigation into the couple. The couple face charges of manslaughter, negligent injury and arson. European media reports that Moretti could face additional charges, including "failure to assist persons in danger."
Dozens of people were reportedly trying to escape and calling for help when Moretti was allegedly seen fleeing the bar. French daily Nice Matin reported that security camera footage showed him leaving with the bar cash register, despite suffering an arm injury. Italian newspaper La Repubblica also reported that its priority was to save “the night’s takeaways.”
The families of the victims and injured have filed a criminal complaint with the Swiss prosecutor's office. Lawyer Romain Jordan confirmed that all the families have been admitted as plaintiffs, stressing that the lawsuit is "against all those responsible, without exception."
Moretti and her husband are also accused of destroying evidence, after allegedly blocking the bar's social media accounts immediately after the fire.
Police are also investigating renovation works carried out in 2015, following suspicions of inadequate safety standards.
The investigation will focus on the functioning of emergency exits, fire extinguishers and other safety equipment. A former waitress has stated that the emergency exit was always closed.
The fire is considered one of the worst disasters in recent Swiss history and has sparked a wave of national mourning. Authorities have announced a day of mourning this week.
