Britain plans to hand over Diego Garcia island to Mauritius, Trump: Big nonsense! One more reason why we want to take Greenland

US President Donald Trump has harshly attacked the United Kingdom in his latest post on the Truth Social platform.
"Shockingly, our 'great' NATO ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to give Diego Garcia Island, the site of a vital US military base, to Mauritius, and to do so WITHOUT ANY REASON," Trump wrote.
He refers to Britain's decision to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, an agreement that also includes the island of Diego Garcia, where the joint British-American military base is located.
According to the signed agreement, the territory where the base is located will be leased to the United Kingdom for a period of 99 years.
Trump called this decision a "BIG FOOL", adding that it is "another reason in a very long list of national security concerns why Greenland should be taken under control".
Surprisingly, our “great” NATO ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to gift the island of Diego Garcia, site of a vital US military base, to Mauritius, and it is doing so WITHOUT ANY REASON.
There is no doubt that China and Russia have noticed this act of total weakness. These are International Powers that recognize only STRENGTH, which is why the United States of America, under my leadership, is now, after just one year, respected as never before.
Giving away extremely important land by the United Kingdom is an act of GREAT FOOLISHNESS and is another in a very long line of National Security reasons why Greenland should be purchased.
Denmark and its European allies must DO THE RIGHT THING. Thank you for your attention to this issue. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.
What is the Chagos Islands agreement?
Britain agreed last year to a deal that would hand over sovereignty over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, while retaining control of the British-American military base on Diego Garcia, the territory's largest island.
British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated that the 99-year lease agreement for Diego Garcia will cost the United Kingdom around 101 million pounds a year.
The Chagos Islands were separated from Mauritius in 1965, when Mauritius was still a British colony. Britain bought the islands for £3 million, but Mauritius has consistently argued that it was illegally forced to hand them over as part of the deal to gain independence.
Britain then invited the United States to build a military base on Diego Garcia, which led to the forcible displacement of thousands of local residents from their homes.
Part of the Chagossian community settled in Mauritius and the Seychelles, while others moved to the United Kingdom, mainly to the town of Crawley, in West Sussex.
