Lawyer sentenced to 20 years in prison for smuggling drugs into her

A lawyer in Samsun, Turkey, has been sentenced to 20 years and 7 months in prison and a fine of 206,000 Turkish liras after she was caught smuggling narcotics into prison for her client.

Lawyer MBG, a member of the Samsun Bar Association and mother of two, was accused of handing over drugs to her client during a meeting in Samsun Prison. Following police investigations, she was arrested on December 31 and then taken into custody.

The trial took place at the Samsun Serious Crimes Court, where the lawyer, brought from Erzincan Prison where she was being held, denied the charges. However, the court found her guilty of the criminal offenses of “bringing prohibited substances into prison” and “trafficking in narcotics.”

The decision to sentence her to prison and a hefty fine was also accompanied by an order that the arrest measure not be changed, keeping her in a cell until the end of her sentence.
