Two young women were killed on Friday afternoon in Istanbul, 30 minutes apart, while the aggressor who took their lives in the end committed suicide.

The Turkish authorities clarified that the victims are Eisenur Halil and Iqbal Uzuner. The two girls together with the suspect, named Semih Çelik, were all 19 years old.

According to Turkish media, the young man was previously in a relationship with one of the girls and was currently in a relationship with the other.

The serious event took place around 16:00 on Friday, where the young man first brutally killed Eisenur, who was his current partner. Then Çelik cut off Iqbal's head in one of the regions of the city near the Byzantine walls, from where he also jumped and met his death.

Çelik's father told the Turkish media that his son suffered from psychological problems and was treated for this.

The murder of two 19-year-olds is just the latest in a series of femicides in Turkey. The country has been rocked by the scourge, which has claimed 290 lives since the start of the year and more than 160 "suspicious deaths," which authorities have classified as suicides or accidents. In fact, at the end of February, seven women were killed in a single day across the country.
