Powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake shakes region between Antarctica and Argentina, tsunami risk

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck late Friday (local time) between Antarctica and Argentina.
The epicenter was about 700 kilometers from Ushuaia, in southern Argentina, and the focal depth was 10 kilometers.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) assessed the earthquake at magnitude 7.8R in the Drake Passage area, between Cape Horn in South America and the South Shetland Islands in Antarctica.
According to the German Geoscience Research Center, the tremor had a magnitude of 7 and came from a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said there was a risk of a tsunami after the strong earthquake.
