He had developed health problems on October 15 and was transferred to the prison hospital from the Shkodra Prison and Rehabilitation Center.

Citizen Shpëtim Çeliku, who was serving his sentence in a high-security prison, passed away at around 08:10 at the QSUNT Central Resuscitation Center, where he had been sent for specialized treatment due to his serious health condition.

Death occurred as a result of cardiorespiratory arrest. Çeliku, a resident of Vlora, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Vlora District Court for the criminal offense of "Murder in other aggravating circumstances", after being arrested on 09.12.2012.

He had 8 years and 5 months left to serve of his sentence. On 15.10.2025 he was transferred to the Prison Hospital from the Shkodra Penitentiary Institution, and then sent to the QSUNT, where he passed away.

On our part, procedures are being implemented with the notification of the Prosecutor's Office, the Albanian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Police Commissariat and the family members.

The shocking event occurred on December 8, 2012, in Orikum, when Shpëtim Çeliku massacred his 34-year-old wife, Manushaqe.

After his arrest, he stated that he had killed her out of jealousy, as he suspected that she had her third child (in her sixth month of pregnancy) with the village guard.

The incident resembles horror scenarios, as the perpetrator, after slaughtering the pregnant woman with a crowbar, slept with her lifeless body for two nights.

Shpëtim Çeliku, 35 years old at the time, hid the serious crime within the family for two nights and, together with his children, aged 3 and 7, slept with the corpse in the same bed. He threatened his minor daughters that he would beat them if they dared to go outside, keeping them locked up together with their mother's corpse.

The crime was only discovered after the neighbor who drank coffee almost every day with the victim, Manushaqe Çeliku, began to suspect. She only saw the head of the family leaving and entering the apartment in a strange manner, which raised suspicions that something serious had happened. The neighbor's short answers when asked where his wife was, caused Flora Muka to alert the police.

Police forces arrived at the couple's apartment and broke down the door of the house, which was locked from the outside. They were stunned to find the woman lying in bed, bloodied and mutilated, while her two teenage daughters were crying and shaking at her head.

Forensic experts determined that the 34-year-old woman was murdered with a crowbar two days before her body was found. She had been hit several times in the head and various parts of her body, and had burn marks (burns from a fire in the apartment), especially on her buttocks and back.

The coroner determined that the victim was 6 months pregnant and that the baby had died in the womb. The 34-year-old's body had several severe blows to the head, as well as a fractured right arm.

After conducting investigations, the police arrested her husband, Shpëtim Çeliku, in the neighborhood he lived in. He initially claimed to not know what had happened in his apartment, as he had been in Saranda for three days and was returning from there.

But then, the evidence obtained and the testimony of his 7-year-old daughter made him surrender and admit to the serious crime. He had also told the two girls about what had happened, while threatening them not to go outside, leaving them with their mother's corpse.

The Çeliku family had survived by collecting tin cans and scrap metal, with the money they earned to make ends meet. The victim was from the village of Pishkash, while her husband was from Shqiponjë, Librazhd. He had been violent towards his wife and children.
