"The Prime Minister orders murder"/ Who is "Fania" from

"These men have committed murders for the Prime Minister on his orders and also the Interior Minister's. I have proof."

This statement given by 36-year-old Irfan Azizi in a London courtroom and its coverage by one of the largest British media outlets, the "Daily Mail", has shocked the island and Albania itself. The news has been widely reported in Tirana and on online platforms.

Yesterday, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard that Irfan Azizi is wanted in Albania to serve a one-year prison sentence, after being convicted in absentia for possession of a mobile phone while in custody for other offences.

Also known as "Fania of Berat", the 36-year-old from the village of Poshnje is trying to convince authorities in Great Britain not to allow his extradition to Albania, under the claims that Talo Çela's group seeks to eliminate him.

He has been living in England for 6 years with his wife and four children, and in 2025 he was sentenced to six months in prison along with another person for possession of forged German patents.

Criminal past in Albania

Irfan Azizi has been registered by the Albanian Police and law enforcement authorities as a person involved in illegal activities in the field of theft, mainly of vehicles. In 2018, Ermir Azizi and his brother Fania were detained by the Fier Police for stealing a Mercedes.

During a search conducted at the vehicle cemetery called "Azizi" in the village of Poshnje, Berat, owned by citizens Irfan and Ermir Azizi, the Mercedes stolen by the two brothers in Lushnje, which they had dismantled with the intention of selling for spare parts, was found and seized.

At the time, Irfan was 28 years old and had previously been convicted of theft and had been prosecuted for gambling, while his brother Ermir was 26 years old and had been convicted of illegal possession of weapons.

Westminster Magistrates' Court heard how Fania had evaded justice, claiming he had paid money to a judge. The Albanian, who faces deportation from England, claimed that before he was assassinated and fled to the island, he was a "wealthy businessman" in Albania, with three petrol stations, as well as car washes and a coffee bar.

The assassination attempt on him took place on November 29, 2020, when a person armed with a Kalashnikov got out of a vehicle that stopped outside a gas station and began firing in bursts. Irfan Azizi was wounded in the hand and five weeks later, he left Albania.

The mastermind of the assassination has been widely reported in Albanian media as Talo Çela, a former close friend of Aziz, who is currently one of the most wanted criminals in Albania.
