TIRANA -  Dionis Teqja. This is the name that today knocked on the doors of at least ten media outlets with a lawsuit against journalists, claiming that his image has been damaged. Through judge Flamur Kapllani, the businessman is asking a number of media outlets to remove a piece of news, not because it is untrue, not because there is a final decision for defamation, but simply "to secure a lawsuit."

“Do it well, do it yourself” — even in this case, Tekja seems to be sticking to the slogan of one of his most popular businesses, “Megatek.” In addition to the request to delete the news, he is also seeking damages from the media amounting to 680 thousand euros.

But who is Dionis Teqja and what are the shadows that follow him beyond the business world?

The businessman is the owner or shareholder of a large number of companies, ranging from trade to hydroelectric power plants and construction. Among them are: “Megatek”, “Teqja International”, “TNT Express Albania” (the absorbed company “Radmail”), “Global Invest” (formerly “Global Construction”), “HEC Peqin”, “Hidro Power Peqin”, “Mercato Italia”, “Fashion Avenue” and “Alien House” SHA.

However, his name has not been absent from reports related to accidents at work, lack of safety, or loss of life on the premises of the companies he owns.

In “Megatek” cases of employment of minors aged 13–16 years, who performed heavy physical work, were found. Two of them, E. Alla, 14 years old, and K. Dusha, 16 years old, were seriously injured after falling from a height of about 12 meters. They were initially taken to a private hospital and then to the Trauma Hospital. Since then, no official information on their condition has been made public.

Another case involves the loss of life of a 32-year-old man in March 2023, while working on the premises of “Megatek”. The police prosecuted Dionis Teqje as the person responsible for violating safety rules at work, but later the responsibility was transferred to a 61-year-old worker and the case was dismissed.

Courtroom clashes and suspicious connections

As reported in the news that the businessman is seeking to be removed, the Court of First Instance in Tirana has made a public announcement about Dionis Teqje, after he failed to appear in the court process where his partner, Thanas Hyseni, sued him for fraud, forgery of documents and embezzlement in the companies "Radmail" and "TNT Express Albania", through assembly decisions and banking operations.

But this is not the only problematic episode. According to reports published by "Pamphlet", based on seven reports by SHISH and anti-crime structures for the period 2016–2024, Dionis Teqja is suspected of having transferred around 37 million euros to Greece and Cyprus through illegal banking channels and non-banking agencies, in collaboration with Greek partner Apostolos Pefkos, who owns 0.1% of the shares in "Megatek".

According to the same reports, it is suspected that the companies "Technek SA" and "Metron Energy" in Greece, owned by Pefkos, were used, while in Albania the companies "HEC Peqin" and "Hidro Power Peqin" were used.

Apostolos Pefkos was initially a co-founder of "Megatek" with 20% of the shares, since March 2007, but then ended up with only 0.1%, a change that according to reports was not reflected in the Central Bank and that is suspected to have occurred after investigations against him in Greece for illegal transfers and smuggling in function of "Megatek".

Today, this list of controversies is joined by a clash with the media. Through Judge Flamur Kapllani, Dionis Teqja is requesting the removal of a news story based on real reporting and official court documents — a precedent that raises serious questions about the boundary between image protection and censorship of the media. /ZËRI
