Zelensky again accuses Russia of violating ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Russia has ignored Kiev's call for a ceasefire, reporting over 1,800 violations of the unilaterally declared ceasefire.

"To date, we can confirm that the Russian side has violated the ceasefire regime," Zelensky wrote on the X platform.

He stressed that Kiev will decide on further steps this evening, based on military and intelligence reports.

Ukraine declared a ceasefire effective from midnight on Wednesday (21:00 GMT on Tuesday) and called on Russia to join it.

However, Moscow announced earlier that its ceasefire would take effect on Friday, in time for Victory Day celebrations on May 9, which commemorates the defeat of Nazi Germany by the Soviet Union.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha earlier accused Moscow of violating Kiev's ceasefire.

"Russian attacks using 108 drones and three missiles continued throughout the night, including morning bombings of Kharkiv and Zaporizhia," he wrote in X.

"Once again, Moscow ignored a real and just call to end the fighting, supported by states and international organizations," Sybiha added.

"This shows that Russia rejects peace and its calls for a ceasefire on May 9 have nothing to do with diplomacy. Vladimir Putin only cares about military parades, not human lives," he added.
