A historic day is approaching at the World Cup

This Thursday will be a historic moment in this World Cup that will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The match between the Czech Republic and South Africa at the Atlanta Stadium, which corresponds to the second day of Group A, will be the first match refereed by a woman at this World Cup. Moreover, it will be the American Tori Penso, born in Florida, who will be responsible for refereeing this match.
We're talking about one of the most important referees in the world. In the summer of 2023, she was appointed by FIFA to referee the Women's World Cup final between England and Spain, a match that resulted in Spain's first Women's World Cup title.
Months later she was selected by FIFA for the Men's Club World Cup in December of the same year 2023. Tori Penso will be assisted on the field by her two compatriots Brooke Mayo and Kathryn Nesbitt.
She also becomes the second woman to referee a men's World Cup match, following in the footsteps of Frenchwoman Stéphanie Frappart, who was the main referee for the Germany-Costa Rica group stage match at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
