What does the draft US-Iran agreement contain?

The agreement between Iran and the US sets out the terms of a ceasefire between the sworn rivals, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, some financial relief for Iran and a reiteration by Tehran that it will never produce a nuclear weapon, according to a draft copy of the text obtained by CNN.

The 14-point memorandum of understanding has not yet been officially released, but a copy of it was provided to CNN by a U.S. official. A diplomat who saw it at the G7 summit in France this week confirmed its contents, as did two other diplomatic sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

Given the secrecy that both the U.S. and the Iranians have about the language, it remains unclear whether the draft text shared with CNN will reflect the exact wording of the final document that will be signed in person on Friday in Switzerland. Technical details are also being finalized, so the wording could change. A White House spokesman said the text did not reflect the actual memorandum.

Under the draft agreement, the US would allow Iran to sell its oil and petrochemical products, and Tehran could be able to benefit from a $300 billion development fund if it meets commitments related to its nuclear program in further negotiations. The document does not include specific details on what will be done with Iran's highly enriched uranium.

The US official told CNN that the text reflects the agreement digitally signed by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Sunday.

Speaking to CNN, U.S. officials have downplayed the significance of the memorandum itself, calling it a “political document” that does not reflect critical secret commitments Iran has made to the United States, specifically on the future of Tehran’s nuclear program. The White House did not respond to a request for comment when presented with a draft obtained by CNN. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency described leaked versions of the draft as inaccurate. Bloomberg previously published a version of the draft.
