Portugal legend reveals favourite teams to win 2026 World Cup

The 2026 World Cup now has its official groups and has immediately brought reactions from big names in football.

One of them, Luís Figo, commented on the draw, particularly praising the chances of Spain and Portugal in this historic edition.

Spain have been drawn in Group H, just like they were in the 2010 World Cup, a coincidence that has naturally sparked optimism among fans. Figo, however, sees this as something more than just luck:

"Spain is definitely one of the main favorites to go very far," he said, emphasizing that the team is balanced and capable of fighting until the end.

The former Portuguese star also pointed out an interesting scenario for the knockout stage.

If Spain and Portugal manage to top their groups, then the two Iberian national teams could only meet in a possible final.

But Figo stressed that Portugal does not see this as revenge for 2010, when Spain eliminated them in the round of 16.

"It's time and other teams. Portugal's objective is to go to the final and lift the trophy," he said.

As for the favorites, Figo mentioned the four strongest names according to him:

Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Spain.

He reminded that the draw is just the first step and that to win the World Cup you have to defeat any opponent that comes your way.

According to betting company predictions, Spain is rated at odds of 5.0 to triumph in the 2026 World Cup, a clear sign of the team's strength.

Meanwhile, the World Cup could also reserve a historic duel: a showdown between Portugal and Argentina in the quarterfinals, which could be the last Messi-Ronaldo matchup in a World Cup.
