Albanian football in mourning / Elbasan striker Fatjon Bunjaku passes away at the age of 22

A car accident tragically took the life of Fatjon Bunjaku.

The 22-year-old footballer from Elbasan passed away today after midnight, while walking on the Pristina-Mitrovicë axis.

The bitter news was announced by the Samadrajxhe village website, which announced the young man's passing.

"We announce with sadness that Fation Fatmir Bunjaku passed away last night in a tragic accident. We will inform you in due time about the day and time of the funeral,"  the announcement says.

Bunjaku was considered one of the talented footballers of his generation, and during his career he was active in several Kosovar football clubs, most recently playing for Elbasan.

He was also wearing the Kosovo U-21 national team jersey.

His untimely passing has shocked the sports community in Albania and Kosovo, with many messages of condolence flooding social media from clubs, fans and football figures.
