Fierce exchanges of fire in Lebanon, despite the agreement announced in

The exchange of airstrikes has continued in Lebanon, despite an agreement announced this week in Washington to reduce tensions. The latest clashes have caused casualties among both Lebanese and Israeli forces.

According to the Lebanese armed forces, an Israeli airstrike in the south of the country, between Hardal and Nabatieh, hit a military vehicle, killing three army personnel.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned the attack, calling it a "flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law," while questioning the effectiveness of mediation efforts to stop the fighting.

For its part, the Israeli military said it had targeted a vehicle that was moving “suspiciously” near its forces in an operational area in southern Lebanon, stressing that the target was linked to Hezbollah and not the Lebanese army. According to Tel Aviv, the incident is still under investigation.

The Hezbollah movement condemned the attack, calling it an "ugly crime" and accusing Lebanese authorities of "surrendering to the enemy's demands," referring to agreements brokered in Washington.

According to official reports, there have also been casualties on the Israeli side in the recent clashes, with two soldiers reported killed in fighting in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military also said it had struck about 150 Hezbollah targets in the past 48 hours and ordered the evacuation of residents in five villages in southern and eastern Lebanon, pending further military operations.

Meanwhile, Lebanon's Health Ministry reported civilian casualties, including a nurse killed on her way to work and two other women killed in a bombing in the Saida area, where over 20 people were also injured.

Despite the announcement of a new US-brokered ceasefire agreement, which was scheduled to come into effect on April 17, its implementation remains unclear and has not been respected on the ground.

The agreement provides for a halt to attacks by Hezbollah, while Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon have continued, increasing tensions in the region.

According to official Lebanese data, since the latest escalation of the conflict, thousands of people have been killed, while dozens of military casualties have been reported by the Israeli side.

The situation remains volatile, with fears of a further escalation of fighting on Lebanon's southern border.
