Investigation reopened into death of 'Mango' founder, son suspected

The death of Mango clothing brand founder Isak Andic remains a mystery more than a year after the incident. The businessman died in December 2024, at the age of 71, after falling from a cliff while hiking on the Montserrat mountain near Barcelona.

His eldest son, Jonathan Andic, was with him at the time of the incident. Initially, the Catalan police classified the incident as an accident, a version that was also maintained by the company's official statement.

However, some investigators remained skeptical, and the investigation was reopened in March 2025 by a different judge. During further questioning, several inconsistencies were found in Jonathan's statements, and his phone was seized for analysis. Spanish media even described Jonathan as a "possible suspect" in a murder investigation.

Isak Andic had built one of the most famous European fashion brands. He emigrated from Istanbul to Barcelona in 1968, started with a small business selling embroidered T-shirts and gradually built up the Mango business.

Isak had three children from his marriage to ex-wife Neus Raig Tarragó: Jonathan, Judith and Sarah. Jonathan, who created the Mango Man line in 2007 and temporarily took over the company, was often commented on for his luxurious style and public lifestyle, in contrast to his father's discreet profile. However, financial results were not satisfactory and Isak returned to the helm by appointing an external CEO, Toni Ruiz, in 2020.

It is reported that Jonathan had visited the path where the accident occurred a few days before the incident. For now, the investigation continues, including various elements that raise suspicions, while the father-son relationship remains unclear: some sources speak of tensions, others of a strong bond.

Andic's will divides the estate: half to his partner, Estefania Knuth, and the other half equally among the children.
