Municipalities under investigation by SPAK revealed, 40 out of 61 with files in the Special Prosecution Office, tenders remain the main charges

Tenders for water supply and road repairs are two of the most common crimes that are costing dozens of mayors or former mayors, discovered either by the losing company in the competition or by audits by the Albanian Supreme Audit Institution.
The latest against whom SPAK formalized the charges is the former mayor of Memaliaj, Golek Guci, former deputy mayor Edmonda Harizi, who, along with two other defendants, will face the Anti-Corruption Court for violations during the tender for the water supply that supplies water to eight villages and Memaliaj.
The limit fund for the facility, as filed by the Supreme Audit Office in SPAK, which finalized the investigations, is 493 million lek. Since the launch of SPAK until now, it results that 40 municipalities out of 61 in total have files open in SPAK, finalized either with arrests, convictions or still under process.
Currently, there are 16 charges against mayors and former mayors, while the most recent one to be convicted is that of Rrogozhina. The number of municipalities that still do not have official problems with SPAK is only 21.
Among local government representatives, the most investigated at the official level are those employees who are selected as members of the bid evaluation committee and who sign tender procedures.
