On March 11, the media reported that 61,000 pages of material from the file were delivered to Mayor Erion Veliaj at Durres Prison.
In fact, the truth is that the day before, on March 10, officers from the Directorate of Prisons went to deliver the materials to Erion Veliaj at Durrës prison, but the mayor refused.
During this meeting, Erion Veliaj verbally clashed with the prison officers. After the court's decision on March 9 to fulfill a whim of Erion Veliaj, that is, a whim of his, after he requested to have the materials of the investigative file printed, materials that had previously been given to his lawyers in minutes, the court charged the Prisons Directorate with the responsibility of delivering to Mayor Erion Veliaj all the materials with over 60 thousand pages, which in this case will have to be paid for by Albanian taxpayers.
Veliaj had previously received these materials, his lawyers had administered them, but apparently he did not have several tens of thousands of old lek to print them while paying 220 thousand dollars to a lobbying studio in the US.
The officers, after taking the relevant minutes on this matter, left the premises of the Durrës prison. The next day, the media reported that Erion Veliaj had taken the materials.
The news broke in the media, mainly paid for by the brother of Mayor Erion Veliaj, Arbër Veliaj, who initially reported that Erion had taken the documents according to the court decision.
In fact, the day before, on March 10, he had refused. The next day, after perhaps consulting with his lawyers or third parties, Mayor Veliaj, who is in Durrës prison on 13 serious criminal charges, communicated with the director of Durrës prison, asking him to make the materials available to him and to call the officers again and hand them over to him with a report.
They were immediately made available to him by the officers to whom Erion Veliaj had not told anything the day before and the next day he changed his position.
Perhaps this court case against Erion Veliaj is beyond his control, perhaps he still thinks he is the mayor and has yet to accept or understand that he is facing 13 serious criminal charges and risks many years in prison./ CNA/
