The decision to ban the use of skateboards has sparked intense debate in the media and among legal experts, while the matter has been brought to the Constitutional Court for review.
On the show "News24 Weekend" with Megi Latifi, activist Gevio Tabaku said that the removal of skateboards forces citizens to use cars, worsening traffic in Tirana. He added that the ban should only target users who violate the rules and do not respect road safety.
Meanwhile, lawyer Gent Serjanaj, head of the "Social Justice" organization, criticized the blocking procedure.
"When the skateboards were blocked, there was no decision published in the Official Gazette. Thousands of skateboards were blocked immediately after the minister's statement, without any official basis," he said.
The lawyer raises suspicions that third parties may have requested the removal of the skateboards from circulation.
"Time is showing that the goal was not to regulate the situation because even after 5 months there is no working group to come up with a draft on how it will be regulated. The instruction foresees that they will be returned to circulation after legal regulations.
We suspect that third parties have requested that skateboards be removed from circulation," he said.
