Trump: Those who depend on oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz should take care of their own security

US President Donald Trump called on countries that depend on oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz to actively contribute to the protection of this strategic sea route, by sending warships to the region.
This strait, through which about 20% of the world's oil trade normally passes, has been almost completely paralyzed due to the armed conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. The war, which began on February 28, has significantly increased tensions in the Middle East and caused a sharp increase in international oil prices.
Two weeks after the conflict began, the situation remains highly tense. One of the first flare-ups of the conflict led to the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, while the death toll has passed 2,000 people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, according to official figures.
Through his Truth Social platform, Trump declared that the United States has “defeated and destroyed Iran both militarily and economically.” He stressed that many countries are expected to join the US in keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and ensuring the safe passage of tankers.
The US president had declared the day before that the US Navy would escort tankers passing through the region and expressed hope that countries such as China, France, Japan, South Korea and the UK would join the naval mission to protect oil transport.
Trump also claimed that US forces had struck military targets on Kharg Island, about 30 kilometres off the Iranian coast, where Iran's main oil export terminal is located. However, Iran's FARS news agency reported that although several explosions were recorded in the area, no energy facilities were damaged.
