Analyst Agim Baçi, invited to the News24 studio , commented on the latest political developments in the country, focusing on the attacks of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, against the European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, as well as on the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party, where other candidates were excluded from the process.

Baçi stated that Berisha's lack of contacts with international diplomats is an unusual situation for Albanian politics since the 1990s.

"I remember since 1991 that all internationals, when they met the prime minister or the president, also met the leader of the opposition. Since Berisha's return, not even the ambassador of Kosovo or North Macedonia meets him, not even important European or US ambassadors. Albanians should make this country, but internationals are an important factor in Albania. Now that this communication is missing, Berisha feels this gap," he said.

According to the analyst, the opposition is not being represented in the best way at international tables, while Berisha's political statements are not translated into concrete decision-making by European institutions.

"The opposition with Berisha is not being represented at these tables in its best model. An opposition leader is missing where important issues are discussed. The resolutions that Berisha says were given to the DP have not been translated into decisions in the EU offices, they remain political rhetoric. What decides is the EU report," said Baçi.

Commenting on developments within the DP and the race for president, the analyst emphasized that Berisha is in a difficult situation due to his political promises and internal conflicts within the party.

"Berisha is a hostage to his own promises. Unfortunately for the opposition, it has entered a deadlock where it is creating internal problems at a time when it should be united against the majority. The political party must solve the problems within itself and not through judicial processes," he declared.

Baçi also commented on Ervin Salianj's exclusion from the race, suggesting that the reason is related to differing positions within the party.

"Berisha does not allow Salianji in the race because Salianji seeks a different frequency within the DP, which does not agree with Berisha," the analyst concluded.
