US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that an agreement on Iran's nuclear program cannot be reached within "72 hours", stressing that the negotiations are very complex and technical.
"The nuclear negotiations are very technical. You can't solve an issue like this in 72 hours at a corner of a table," Rubio said in an interview with the New York Times from New Delhi.
He also demanded the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which he said has been blocked by Iran, as a condition for starting serious negotiations on uranium enrichment and Tehran's commitment not to develop nuclear weapons.
Rubio said a 60-day deadline has been set for the process and added that "seven or eight countries in the region" support this diplomatic approach.
The statements come at a time when the US and Iran are conducting intensive negotiations for an agreement aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.
