The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, began his speech at the national protest, describing this day as one of the most significant moments in national history.

In his speech, Berisha recalled the events of February 20, 1991, when tens of thousands of citizens, initially gathered in Student City in support of the student strike, marched towards Skanderbeg Square.

"Eternal honor to those brave men who, like lions, attacked the dictator's statue, overturned it and liberated Albania from communist dictatorship," Berisha said to supporters.

Following his speech, he drew a parallel between the communist regime and the current political situation, stating that 35 years later, Albanians are facing, according to him, a regime with similar features. Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of power grabs, corruption and tampering with the electoral process.

"We honor this date today with deep gratitude and great inspiration, with our pledge to Albanians that Edi Rama's days will be numbered," he declared.

"My friends, 35 years ago, Albanians would never have thought that 35 years later they would be facing a regime. Certainly not identically the same, but unfortunately very similar in many aspects. They could not believe that 35 years later the country's powers would be in the hands of an unprecedented historical criminal after Enver Hoxha, the country's power in the hands of a traitor who will always blacken national history for his acts of betrayal against the nation and the country, they would be in the hands of a man who would plunder Albania like no other in our history. 35 years ago, those men and women who stepped over armored cars, snipers, machine guns, for the free vote, human dignity could not believe that 35 years later the electoral farce of the one they overthrew would return again ," said Berisha.
