Vetevendosje secures the government, but not the President, Kurti seeks opposition cooperation

The vote counting process for the June 7 elections is nearing its end, paving the way for political parties to engage in forming institutions.
While the current result puts the Vetëvendosje Movement in first place with 52 seats secured in the Assembly, the cooperation with non-Serb minorities and Nenad Rashiq only ensures the formation of the government, but not the election of the president, for which a quorum of 80 MPs is required. The leader of Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti, stated on Tuesday that in order to start the engagement in this direction, the certification of the election results must be awaited.
Albin Kurti, acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, said, " We are interested in entering the next phase, which is the constitution of the institutions of the 11th legislature, without wasting time, the sooner the better ."
Kurti, who has already secured another mandate at the head of the executive, said that for the election of the president, cooperation with the opposition is needed, but as he said, "the opposition's rejectionist behavior" must end.
" We continued further, offering to vote for the president offered by the opposition, let them bring us three proposals, and we will give them both signatures and votes, they still refused, and in the end they also rejected the leader of civil society. So, in order to move forward, the opposition's refusal behavior needs to end ," Kurti added.
From the overall results so far, the Vetëvendosje Movement leads as the winner of the June 7 elections, followed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo which secures 22 seats in the assembly, the Democratic League of Kosovo 19 and the Alliance 7 mandates.
