Mental problems in children/ Study: Observed in 14 percent of young children

The mental health crisis among children has reached a critical point and one of the main reasons is the uncontrolled use of social media.

According to a study by the children's rights group KidsRight and Erasmus University Rotterdam, at least 14% of children and adolescents aged 10-19 worldwide experience mental health problems, while the global suicide rate reaches 6 per 100,000 adolescents aged 15-19.

The study calls for strong education, at a time when the rampant spread of social media does not focus on child safety.

KidsRights identified a worrying link between the deterioration of children's mental health and what the organization calls problematic social media use, i.e. uncontrolled and addictive use.

The lack of data on children's mental health is a major problem, according to the report, and reveals an urgent need for coordinated action to address the harmful impact of the digital environment on children and adolescents.

Europe is the region where 13-year-olds are most exposed to problematic social media use, at 13%.

The level of digital addiction among 15-year-olds is extremely high, with 39% of them being in constant contact with their friends via the internet.
