Gjirokastra, the district with the lowest number of births in Albania

Demographic indicators for the first quarter of this year show a decline in births and an increase in deaths during 2025. Based on data published by INSTAT, during 2025, 22,541 babies were born in Albania and 21,394 deaths were recorded.

As a result, the natural increase in the population resulted positive with 1,147 more births than deaths, however, decreasing compared to 2024.

Regarding the division by regions, during 2025, Tirana recorded the highest number of births with 10,866 babies. The region with the fewest births was Gjirokastra with only 292 births. The largest increase was recorded in Tirana with +20.7%, while the deepest decrease was in Dibër with -37.7%.
