14 new energy trading licenses in 2025, total number reaches 130

The year 2025 has marked a significant increase in interest in licensing in electricity trading. According to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, during the past year, 14 new licenses were granted for the exercise of energy trading activity, a significantly higher figure compared to 2024, when only 3 such licenses were approved.
Meanwhile, in the last 5 years, the highest number was recorded in 2022, when ERE licensed 16 companies to carry out this activity. The increase in interest at that time came when electricity markets were unstable, while the Albanian Electricity Corporation, which managed sales and purchases, carried out frequent procedures in this regard.
Meanwhile, the 2025 figures come in a different context than that of the years of the energy crisis, as the domestic market has experienced an expansion in the number of producers, with new investments in solar energy.
According to the legislation in force, electricity trading includes the purchase of energy by a legal entity for the purpose of reselling it, within or outside the territory where it operates.
