Israel expands offensive against Hezbollah, takes control of 900-year-old fortress in Lebanon

The Israeli military has expanded the area in southern Lebanon from which it has asked residents to evacuate, while further expanding ground operations against Hezbollah, A2CNN reports.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reiterated its warning to all residents south of the Zahrani River to evacuate. “Anyone who is near Hezbollah elements, their facilities or their combat vehicles is putting their lives at risk,” a spokesman said.
The warning came shortly after the army confirmed it had taken control of the 900-year-old Beaufort Castle, a cultural monument and strategic point on a ridge high above the Litani River. Every day brings a new expansion of Israel's war against Hezbollah.
The latest evacuation warning is the second time in recent days that Israel has asked residents to leave the entire south of the country, in the area below the Zahrani River.
The IDF spokesman said that "a significant number of IDF ground troops" were involved in the operation and that the operation "is currently being expanded to other areas."
This is another clear indication that Israeli ground forces are penetrating deeper and deeper into Lebanese territory, beyond their initial demarcation line on the Litani River.
