US plane crash in Iraq, US confirms: Four of six crew members dead

Four of the six crew members have been killed in the crash of a plane that was refueling in Iraq, confirmed the US Central Command, which oversees operations in the Middle East.

The accident happened at 2:00 p.m. local time yesterday, police said, adding that rescue efforts were ongoing.

The plane was the fourth U.S. aircraft lost since the U.S. and Israel began airstrikes against Iran on February 28. Three U.S. Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down in a friendly fire incident by Kuwaiti air defenses earlier this month. All crew members on those planes ejected safely.

Seven American troops have been killed in the conflict, while up to 150 American troops have been wounded. The death toll in Iran is more than 1,300, according to the country's ambassador to the UN.

Both Donald Trump and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have warned that the Iran war will probably take more American lives before the conflict ends.
