Clashes at protests against war with Iran, Israeli police arrest 18 people

Israeli police arrested at least 18 people after clashes during protests against the war with Iran in several of the country's major cities.
According to authorities, 13 people were arrested in Tel Aviv and five others in Haifa, while demonstrations also took place in Jerusalem and Beersheba.
These protests mark a new development, as for the first time anti-government groups have joined the anti-war demonstrations. In the early weeks of the conflict, the protests were mainly organized by left-wing activists.
In Haifa, about 100 protesters took to the streets, waving Israeli flags and chanting slogans against the conflict. One of the banners held by the demonstrators read: “Millions of children are growing up in shelters.” The situation became tense when some participants attempted to block a road, prompting police to declare the gathering illegal and intervene with arrests. According to footage from the scene, some of those detained did not appear to be obstructing traffic at the time of their arrest.
Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, police dispersed another rally in Habima Square, arguing that it violated wartime regulations that limit public gatherings to a maximum of 50 people. Authorities said there was a “real risk to human life,” leading to the decision to disperse the protest on the orders of Yarkon District Police Commander Tzachi Sharabi.
After the demonstration in Tel Aviv ended, Border Police forces were seen forcibly pushing away some participants who were leaving, while in another incident, a protester was grabbed by the shirt and thrown to the ground. Reports from the scene also indicate that police placed their hands on Hadash-Ta'al leader Ayman Odeh, despite his parliamentary immunity.
The events reflect rising internal tensions in Israel, as the conflict with Iran continues to affect not only the region, but also the political and social climate within the country.
