33-year-old mountaineer dies in Austria, boyfriend allegedly left her alone while climbing the mountain

A serious event has shocked Austria regarding the death of 33-year-old mountaineer Kerstin Gunter, who lost her life on January 19 during a climb on the Grossglockner mountain, at an altitude of nearly 3,800 meters.
According to investigators' reconstruction, Gunter had stopped after showing signs of fatigue and disorientation, while her boyfriend, Thomas Plamberger, had decided to go down in search of help, leaving her alone.
Plamberger returned after about six hours, but the climber was found dead. Austrian prosecutors say he made several important mistakes during the emergency situation and now faces charges of manslaughter.
Investigations continue to determine exact responsibilities and to understand whether faster intervention or more careful decision-making could have avoided the tragedy.
