Reuters: US officials confirm downing of fighter jet by Iranian attacks

Iran has shot down a US fighter jet over its territory, US officials announced, Reuters reports.

The fate of the plane's crew remained unclear, while authorities have organized a search and rescue operation.

The news was first reported by the Iranian Tasnim news agency, which said a US F-35 had been shot down and showed photos. Analysts quoted by CNN concluded that – based on the photos – it was an F-15.
