Del Piero explodes on Italy's situation: We shouldn't think about saving...

Former Juventus captain and Italian football legend, Alessandro Del Piero, has made a harsh analysis of the deep crisis that Italy is going through, after failing to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row.
In an interview with Sky Calcio, Del Piero did not spare criticism, describing the situation in strong tones: "There are many negative feelings: sadness, anger, disappointment and disbelief. The first time was a shock, the second a nightmare, while the third is embarrassing to justify."
According to him, the responsibility should not fall on specific individuals like Gennaro Gattuso, Gianluigi Buffon or Gabriele Gravina, but it is a deep structural problem.
"We are far behind, not only compared to our own standards, but also to countries like France and Germany, which have had the courage to rebuild from scratch," he stressed.
Del Piero also touched on the basic problems of Italian football, highlighting the new sectors, the lack of investment and infrastructure: "We need to analyze why men's football has problems, while women's football and other sports are achieving success. The problems are in the academies, the stadiums and the way the system is managed."
The former number 10 called for more humility and cooperation at all levels: "We must accept that we are not the best, nor second or third. Pride must be put aside, it takes work and humility."
In the end, he also gave a strong message to the leaders of Italian football, underlining the lack of long-term vision: "It's not just a question of money, but of serious projects. It takes time to build something sustainable. The examples are there: Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta and Carlo Ancelotti in his career. Footballers are not created immediately, but are formed and developed with patience."
