Former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Dedë Prenga, has warned that there is a danger for Albania due to developments in the Middle East and the presence of the mujahedeen in our country. On Every Corner with Merita Haklajn, he said that the warning of the United States Embassy in Tirana was justified and should be taken seriously, while the initial reaction of the Albanian government was unprofessional and hasty.
"I am convinced that the United States Embassy in Tirana also made an announcement or more precisely a statement that I would think was appropriate and the reaction to it, especially the initial one regarding the Albanian government, was not at all professional and even worse diplomatic. Then the parliament part continued in the same way. One side on Thursday, yesterday minimized the position and the other side sought to maximize it in terms of dangerousness."
Prenga emphasized that there should be neither underestimation nor overestimation of the situation, but a realistic assessment of the risk, also remembering previous cyberattacks against Albanian institutions.
"Here, in my opinion, there should be neither underestimation nor overestimation. There should be a real assessment. The United States of America, given the context of information and their reactions from time to time, cannot be said to have been unalert and not a statement to be taken seriously and evaluated, because there is a risk. No one can say that the risk does not exist. It may not exist in the aspect that Iran will turn all its attention to Albania. This cannot happen because it has a much greater headache and commitment and does not come to mind for us. But given many facts that have been stubborn since several years ago, the interference of cyber attacks and penetration into all types of institutions of the Albanian state", he said.
The general announced that elements recruited by the Iranian regime have been identified in Albania and that there are cells that could be activated in the framework of the so-called hybrid wars. According to him, the presence of the mujahideen in our country increases the country's exposure to risks.
"Even the part of Mecca that has been established for several years, and takes risks in this case. It is another matter that was the request of the United States of America and we have obligations to our strategic partners, but nowhere is it established in a city like the one that was established there with 3,000 or 3,500 people and elements have been discovered who were recruited by the Iranian regime.
