"My mother cursed at me!"/ Brawl in the Greek Parliament, MP who raped

The Mixed Jury Court of Athens today sentenced independent MP Konstantinos Floros to 4 years in prison for the violent incident that victimized "Hellenic Solution" MP Vassilis Grammenos.

The incident occurred during the plenary session of Parliament in April 2024. The court unanimously found the accused MP guilty of the criminal offense of using violence against a colleague in the performance of his duties, but decided that the appeal would have suspensive effect.

The court, by a narrow 4-3 majority, decided to recognize the mitigating factor for the accused. On the contrary, the deputy rejected the remaining mitigating circumstances that he requested through his lawyers, specifically those of the victim's inappropriate behavior, sincere remorse, and good behavior after the act.

However, it should be noted that the prosecutor had proposed the dismissal of all mitigating circumstances, noting that “this behavior within our Parliament saddens us all.” Earlier, during his defense in court, the defendant had spoken, among other things, of an “unfortunate moment” and a “wrong reaction on his part,” claiming that he had received a vulgar and insulting attack on his mother from the “Hellenic Solution” MP.

"I acted recklessly, driven by what I heard about my mother, my reaction was wrong, I did not expect to experience such moments in the Greek Parliament when I was attacked unprovoked for my mother," Floros stated in Court.
