EMRI/ Suffering cardiac arrest, the person sentenced to life imprisonment passes away in Korça hospital
Life imprisonment convict, Hysni Qamil Repaj from Shkodra, passed away today at the Korça Regional Hospital after developing serious cardiac problems during medical treatment.
He was serving a sentence for intentional homicide and illegal possession of a weapon and had a history of treatment for mental health problems.
Today, on 30.03.2026, at around 09:40, the life-sentenced prisoner, Hysni Qamil Repaj, born on 15.01.1962, born and residing in Shkodra, was urgently escorted to the premises of the Korça Regional Hospital.
The convict was serving a sentence for the criminal offenses of "Intentional Murder in Connection with Another Crime" and "Unlicensed Possession of a Weapon", as provided for in Articles 77 and 278 of the Criminal Code. While serving his sentence, he was also treated for mental health problems by a psychiatrist.
In the consultation conducted today by the institution's doctor, Pajtim Hoxhaj, it was determined through the oximeter that the heart rate was low (bradycardia). For this reason, the convict was urgently sent to the emergency service of the Korça Regional Hospital for further evaluation by specialist doctors.
During the examination procedures at this hospital, the prisoner's health condition deteriorated, ending in cardiac and respiratory arrest. Despite the intervention and medical assistance provided, he was unable to be revived, resulting in his death.
