"Naval drone found near Lefkada was Ukrainian"/ Greek Foreign Minister: Serious issue

You understand that the presence of this naval drone affects the freedom of navigation, but also the safety of navigation. This is an extremely serious issue."

According to information from Brussels, the Ukrainian Defense Minister did not give an immediate response, but reserved the right to investigate the matter and return with clarifications.

The naval drone was found a few days ago near Lefkada by fishermen and then towed to the port of Vasiliki. According to Greek security experts, it is a military vehicle of the “Magura V5” type, filled with about 100 kilograms of explosives, capable of hitting ships on the surface. Greek authorities are also investigating whether its target could have been a Russian tanker moving in the Mediterranean.

A day earlier, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis also spoke of “a very serious development,” warning that Greece would not allow the Mediterranean to become a theater of military operations. He stated that, once the technical investigation by the General Staff is completed, the Greek government will take “the necessary diplomatic steps.”

Meanwhile, the Greek opposition is demanding full explanations from the government in Parliament, asking how it is possible for a military drone with explosives to reach the Ionian Sea without being detected earlier and whether there is a risk that the conflict between Ukraine and Russia will be transferred near the Greek coast.
