Activists from the 'pro-family coalition' have come out today to protest against hormonal treatments for transgender people. With banners in their hands and calls in support of the traditional family, citizens have gathered in Skanderbeg Square.
The leader of the DP in Kruja, Aulon Kalaja, in his speech to the attendees criticized the government, the Ministry of Health and the parliamentary majority, opposing any policy that, according to him, could affect minors in matters related to gender identity and hormonal treatments.
Kalaja called on the authorities to withdraw from these initiatives, while emphasizing that the protection of children should be a priority above any political or ideological debate.
Kalaja: We are here today in this protest for our children. Without a political flag, only with the Albanian flag. I believe you have heard that they have gone so far as to want to replace this flag with the LGBT flag, perhaps. Imagine if they removed the national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, from there and put up a bust of Soros. So, this is the agenda that these people want, right?
This is the agenda that these scoundrels want to bring us for modernization. They lie to us, they tell us that Europe had the law. Meanwhile, only two European countries had it. The French court overturned it, the United States court overturned it. Why? Because they protect children. Imagine, sisters and brothers, the hospitals that we have for cancer patients will now be turned into a castration site for our children. The hospitals that we have for our sick, who are from all six sides, will be turned into a place where our children will change their genitals. Yes, I am in this square to make a solution and an alternative that I have for the government officials. First, for those 77 thugs who passed the law in parliament. Second, for the Minister of Health. Third, for this deputy minister who had the courage and face to put her signature on what we saw on Thursday. And finally, for the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama, whom I ask today from this square: Are you a thief, Mr. Prime Minister? Because this is not about the fact that you did not put him in prison for money, the state will pay 15 thousand euros. No sir, this is about dignity, for our children. Therefore, my proposal for the 77 deputies, for the minister, for the prime minister is: Starting tomorrow, take your children first, take them to the hospital, implement hormonal therapy on them. After you try it on your children, come on, then take our children. Let the children of those who voted for the law go and show us how beautiful the transformation of the genital organ is. If they don't take their children, don't touch our children!
