QSUT facing the facts/ More nurses, but patients still waiting?

The "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center has reacted to allegations of a lack of personnel in medical services, clarifying that during this year, the expansion of the personnel structure at the Oncology Hospital was approved.

The reaction comes about a month after journalist Osman Stafa raised concerns about the situation at the QSUT, stating that the emergency department often faces overload and lack of capacity.

" In the QSUT, the emergency room often collapses. Patients stay for hours without service, because there are no seats. There are not enough beds in the emergency room. There are not enough beds in the wards to accommodate patients. Has the Minister of Health carried out the verifications?", declared Stafa. However, this is also a finding of the patients themselves who have denounced this situation many times.

In response to allegations of staff shortages, QSUT announces that by the decision of the Board of Directors dated March 4, 2026, the increase in personnel at the Oncology Hospital was approved.

According to the institution, 23 nurses have been added to the Oncology Service, bringing their number from 48 to 71. Also, 4 imaging technicians and 2 physicists have been added to the Radiotherapy Unit, 2 patient coordinators, and 10 nurses to the Oncology Hospital.

QSUT emphasizes that providing a dignified and quality service to patients remains a priority, while rejecting claims of a lack of personnel.

Regarding the claims of a lack of personnel in medical services, the QSUT clarifies that with Decision No. 4, dated 04.03.2026, of the Board of Directors of the QSU "Mother Teresa", "On changing the structure of the Cardiology Service, PAI Hospital of Internal Diseases and the Oncology Service, PAI Oncology", the addition of the personnel structure in the Oncology Hospital was approved.

Specifically, this decision provides:

* Adding 23 ward nurses to the Oncology Service, bringing their number from 48 to 71;

* Adding 4 imaging technicians to the Radiotherapy Unit, bringing the number from 13 to 17;

* Adding 2 physicists to the Radiotherapy Unit, bringing the number from 6 to 8;

* Adding 2 specialists (Patient Coordinators) to the PAI of the Oncology Hospital, bringing the number from 3 to 5;

* Adding 10 nurses to the PAI of the Oncology Hospital, bringing the number from 21 to 31.

QSUT has at the center of its mission the provision of a dignified, professional and quality service to every patient. Inaccurate information and misinformation create unnecessary uncertainty and stress among patients and their families, without in any way serving to improve the quality of healthcare.
