The Supreme Court has rejected requests to change the security measure "prison arrest" for Mario Çela and Sergej Hasanpapaj, leaving the previous decisions against them in force.

The decision was made in a consulting room by a panel of judges composed of judges Ilir Panda, Albana Boksi and Genti Shala.

Mario Çela, the brother of the much-wanted Suel Çela, was arrested in Belgium on the orders of SPAK and later extradited to Albania. He faces charges of participation in a criminal organization, illegal possession of weapons, and active corruption in the private sector.

According to the Special Prosecution Office, Mario Çela had a leading role in coordinating the activities of the criminal group linked to his brother, including international drug trafficking, corrupt activities, money laundering and serious criminal events.

Meanwhile, Sergej Hasanpapaj was extradited from Belgium in February and is accused of involvement in the murder of Bledar Muça, an event that occurred in Belgium in 2022. He was arrested by Belgian authorities that same year and is considered a well-known character in Elbasan's criminal files.

Hasanpapaj was declared an international wanted person after in 2024 he was sentenced to "prison arrest" for the criminal offenses of attempted premeditated murder, committed within the framework of a criminal organization, as well as for illegal possession of weapons.

Both are part of the ongoing trial at the Criminal Court of Kosovo against 21 defendants suspected of being members of the Suel Çela criminal group.

According to SPAK, the group is suspected of organizing several international cocaine trafficking operations from Latin America to Europe. The investigations include a case of an attempted trafficking of around 930 kilograms of cocaine from Ecuador to Europe in late 2020, as well as another episode with 466 kilograms of cocaine destined for the Netherlands in January 2021.
