Gjokë Malçi, missionary of blood reconciliation in Kurbin, passes away

Gjokë Malçi, 79 years old, from the village of Skuraj in Kurbin, chairman of the Kurbin district Blood Reconciliation Association and one of the most prominent figures in the reconciliation mission in the Lezha region and beyond, passed away today. The cause of death was a heart attack.
With his death, Kurbin and the entire Albanian space lose a faithful man, a man who throughout his life extended the hand of reconciliation between hostile families, saving lives and healing deep social wounds.
Malçi came from a family with deep historical roots in Skuraj, a village where the tradition of besa and mediation has centuries of history. According to local traditions, the ancestor of the family, Kokë Malçi, is mentioned as a wise man of the time of Gjergj Kastrioti, a respected figure in the lands of Kurbin. Gjokë Malçi kept this deep heritage alive, turning the mission of reconciliation into his life's calling.
35 years of mission, 500 reconciliations, 5,400 conflicts resolved
The Kurbin Blood Reconciliation Mission, founded in 1991 and led throughout its existence by Gjokë Malçi, leaves behind an extraordinary legacy: during its 35 years of activity, this mission has achieved 500 reconciliations of enmities and resolved 5,400 cases of conflicts that could have ended tragically.
The blood reconciliation missionaries in Kurbin extended their activity to every village in the district and, thanks to their work, in Kurbin today no child or woman is isolated, a rare and invaluable achievement. This is the special merit of Gjokë Malçi, who always found the language of understanding where others saw only hatred.
His family and associates remember him as a calm, determined and impenetrable man from pressure, qualities that made him the ideal mediator in the most complicated and sensitive situations. Farewell
Gjokë Malçi left behind his wife and five children.
His loss is irreparable for the family, for Kurbini and for all those who believe that faith and honor are the foundations of Albanian society. His name will remain engraved in the memory of all those families who, thanks to him, chose life over revenge.
