Mayor Flamur Golemi and 18 employees infected with AIDS? Gjirokastër Municipality reacts for the first time

The Municipality of Gjirokastra has broken its silence and reacted for the first time regarding the news that has been circulating over the last 24 hours, which has implied that Mayor Flamur Golemi and 18 employees of the institution he heads have been infected with the HIV/AIDS virus.
Through an official response, the Municipality of Gjirokastra has categorically rejected these claims, describing them as untrue, fabricated and without any factual basis. According to the institution, their dissemination aims to create panic and uncertainty among citizens, as well as to damage the image of the municipality and its leaders.
"The Municipality of Gjirokastra condemns with the greatest force the spread of false, fabricated and alarming information and claims on social networks and in any other public form, which have the clear aim of creating a state of insecurity and panic among citizens. The claims recently distributed, according to which the Mayor and 18 employees of this institution are infected with the HIV/AIDS virus, are completely untrue, fabricated and without any factual or real basis ," the Municipality's response states.
The full reaction of the Municipality of Gjirokastra:
The Municipality of Gjirokastra condemns in the strongest terms the spread of false, fabricated and alarming information and claims on social networks and in any other public form, which have the clear aim of creating a state of insecurity and panic among citizens. The claims recently distributed, according to which the Mayor and 18 employees of this institution are infected with the HIV/AIDS virus, are completely untrue, fabricated and without any factual or real basis.
The Municipality of Gjirokastra considers this not simply as an act of disinformation, but as a serious, irresponsible and dangerous action, which aims to damage the image of the institution, violate the dignity and integrity of local administration employees, damage the reputation of the Mayor and, above all, spread panic and uncertainty among citizens. Such content has nothing to do with the right to information, but represents a malicious attempt to poison the public climate with untruths and to create unjustified concern in the community.
The dissemination of false information or reports, verbally, in writing or by any other means, with the aim of instilling a state of uncertainty and panic among people, constitutes a criminal offense, expressly provided for by Article 267 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Albania, which provides for a fine or imprisonment of up to five years.
In this case, it is clear that the purpose of these false claims is not simply to spread a falsehood, but to create panic among citizens, violate public peace and incite uncertainty in public opinion. It is precisely this element of purpose that makes this behavior directly related to the provision of Article 267 of the Criminal Code.
For this reason, the Municipality of Gjirokastra directly calls on the State Police and the Prosecutor's Office to immediately initiate relevant verifications and investigations to identify the authors, instigators, publishers and distributors of this false and alarming information, as well as to hold any person involved in this action legally accountable. Such behavior cannot be treated as an ordinary statement on social networks, but as an act with direct consequences for public order, for the trust of citizens and for the normal functioning of institutional life.
The Municipality of Gjirokastër guarantees the citizens that no such situation exists, as maliciously claimed in these publications. Any information distributed in this regard is completely false and constructed with the aim of damaging the image of the institution and creating unfounded alarm in the public. Citizens should be sure that the Municipality of Gjirokastër continues to exercise its functions normally and, as always, at the service of citizens.
At the same time, the Municipality of Gjirokastra announces that it will pursue with full determination all legal avenues to protect the reputation of the institution, the figure of the Mayor and the dignity of each of its employees, demanding that legal measures be taken against the authors of this false and alarming material.
The Municipality of Gjirokastra also calls on citizens, media and social media users to show responsibility, verify information sources and not become part of the distribution of false content that aims to create panic. Maintaining public peace, civic responsibility and communication based on truth is a common obligation of every citizen and every institution.
