Two young men were arrested by Greek police on the afternoon of April 14 in the Agios Panteleimonas area of Athens, suspected of links to an Albanian mafia criminal group.
According to authorities, they are a 22-year-old foreigner and a 19-year-old Greek, who are suspected of acting on the orders of an Albanian mafia boss, currently imprisoned in Malandrino. The latter is also involved in the murder of lawyer Michalis Zafeiropoulos in October 2017.
The young men were stopped during a routine patrol by officers of the DI.AS. unit, after they were considered suspicious. During the search, 61 doses of cannabis with a total weight of 89 grams, separated and ready for distribution, as well as 520 euros suspected as proceeds from illegal activity were found on them.
Then, during a search of the 22-year-old's apartment by officers of the Sub-Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Prosecution in Athens, 92 grams of cannabis, two precise electronic scales, a large number of nylon packages, as well as an iron fist and a folding knife were seized.
Meanwhile, the same underworld figure, who is suspected of directing youth activities, also turns out to be involved in a serious extortion case in Thessaloniki.
In this case, on April 17, 2026, the Greek police arrested four people, one of whom was imprisoned. According to the investigation, they demanded 200 thousand euros from a company administrator, threatening his life. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to 100 thousand euros.
The police operation was finalized during the controlled delivery of 50 thousand euros, at which point police forces intervened and arrested three of the perpetrators, despite their resistance.
During the searches, a firearm with 11 rounds of ammunition, several mobile phones and thousands of euros were seized, while phones and an improvised cutting tool were also found in the prisoner's cell.
Greek authorities indicate that those arrested have previous convictions for serious criminal offenses, including murder and attempted murder, while investigations continue to fully uncover the activities of the criminal group.
