Smuggling from North Macedonia/ Border checks, 1 in handcuffs, 3 wanted

The border police in Bllate i Dibra have intensified controls on the green border between Albania and North Macedonia, following two recurring phenomena: the smuggling of immigrants from eastern countries and the uncontrolled crossing of animals.
From the operation conducted so far, one person has been arrested and three others are wanted.
Checks are being carried out to identify any cases of illegal crossings, smuggling and environmental crimes.
It is suspected that cases of illegal crossing of calves have been cracked down on, which are introduced into the territory of Albania without veterinary control and are then traded in slaughterhouses and meat sales.
Sources close to law enforcement agencies indicate that more intensive controls are expected in the coming days, as potential points where cows and calves are illegally crossing from North Macedonia to Albania have been identified.
